Avoid “Fake” Kendo Equipment

For current members and for those who are interested in joining:

Lately, we have seen a few of our members, particularly beginners, show up to practice with a “fake” or substandard shinai or bokuto. Unfortunately, these items cannot be used in practice as they can be a potential hazard to you and to the people in the dojo.

In order to avoid these “fake” products and save you from wasting your money, we highly recommend that you buy equipment from the following list of Kendo suppliers online. The stores listed below have been used by our members and are known to sell shinai and bokuto that are fit for practice. Having said that, none of our members are affiliated with any of the stores listed and your experience may vary. Just pick your favorite store from the list if possible.

Atlanta Kendo Kai places 3rd at 9th All Florida Kendo Tournament

Congratulations to our Atlanta Kendo Kai team for placing 3rd at the recent 9th All Florida Kendo Tournament held in Bartow, FL.

A big congratulations too to Yoshimi Desouza for getting First Place in the Women’s Division and to Matthew Graham for getting Second Place in the Mudansha Division.

2012 Cleveland Kendo Taikai Results

24th Annual Cleveland Kendo Tournament

The 24th Annual Cleveland Kendo Tournament / Greater Northeastern United States Kendo Championships will be held at the Adelbert Gymnasium at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH on March 30 – April 1, 2012.

2012 AUSKF/SEUSKF/Atlanta Kendo Kai Registration

Dear Atlanta Kendo Kai Members,

 As announced, the Annual Registration process for the All US Kendo Federation (AUSKF), SouthEastern US Kendo Federation (SEUSKF) and of our dojo, Atlanta Kendo Kai is now ongoing.

If you wish to participate in any AUSKF/SEUSKF event such as a tournament or promotional testing this year, you will have to register and pay the appropriate dues for AUSKF/SEUSKF. Otherwise, you will just have to renew your registration with our dojo.

The deadline for the registration and payment of fees is February 4, 2012.

We have outlined the requirements and fee schedule below and divided them between AUSKF/SEUSKF and Atlanta Kendo Kai registration. AUSKF/SEUSKF Registration
1. Required form: Please download, print and sign the form SEUSKF AGREEMENT AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY.pdf .
2. Payment of fees: Please make one check payable to “SEUSKF” for the amount of $70 for Adults aged 18 and over or $50 for Youth aged 17 and under. Attach this check to your completed and signed SEUSKF liability form.
3. Breakdown of the fees are as follows:
Adults: AUSKF Annual Fee – $40 ; SEUSKF Annual Fee – $30 = Total $70
Youth: AUSKF Annual Fee – $25; SEUSKF Annual Fee – $25 = Total $50

1. ALL members of the dojo are required to register online to update member information AND submit a printed and signed liability form for 2012 even if you have previously submitted a registration and/or liability form in the past. We are doing this to update our member records.
2. 2012 Members Contact Info Update: Please update you information online using this link – https://www.atlantakendokai.org/2012-members-contact-info-update/. Your information will be transferred over a secure 256-bit encrypted connection.
3. Required form: Please download, print and sign the form Atlanta-Kendo-Kai-Release-of-Liability.pdf .
4. Payment of fees: Please make a check payable to “Atlanta Kendo Kai” for the amount of $20 which is our annual dues. Attach this check to your completed and signed Atlanta Kendo Kai liability form.

No Practice on Saturday, August 13 (AUSKF Championships)

To All Members:

There will be no practice this coming Saturday, August 13 due to the All US Kendo Federation (AUSKF) National Championships being held here in Atlanta.
We highly encourage everyone to come to the tournament from Aug 12-13. This event is only held every 3 years and will be a good chance to see Kendo practitioners from all over the United States come together and compete.
Let’s also give our support to the team from our federation, the South Eastern US Kendo Federation (SEUSKF). Especially to those competing from our very own dojo, Atlanta Kendo Kai.
